An Introduction to Pest Control Pests are species commonly insects which harm the health of any living organism be it a human being or plants, some examples of pests include mosquitoes and ants. Pests are nagging organisms, and which have become a nuisance to most people and in household too for example flies, they infest everywhere in home, and it portrays a bad picture for you and your house. Pests are known to be the major causative agent of the common sicknesses. The main cause of pest infestation is poor hygiene maintenance in and around our homes and as such pests breed there. Pests do not like clean places and as such if you regularly clean your place, you can be able to comfortably deal with these pests. Overgrown bushes and thickets around your house is also another cause of pest infestation in your home, bushes tend to act as a survival place especially for mosquitoes of there is any swampy stagnant water around. Destroying an organism’s habitat is a short cut to destroying even the insect itself because it will have no place to live in and it will in due time just die away. There are several ways in which you can deal with the pests for example using using pest destroying animals where it involves using a predator especially an animal to feed on a prey which is the pest disturbing you. This the method of dealing with pests although it might be slow it does not have other negative consequences of the rest of the organisms. Use of pesticides is the most common pest control method being used by most households. Insecticides can be used to control pests over a large area of farm or just a smaller area. Another method used to deal with pests is by feeding them poisonous substances as it is done to rats, for example, there are various rat poisons that can be used. Hunting involves say running after a pest and killing it,this method is usually very slow and cannot be efficiently used to deal extensively with pests that have infested a large area for example the wild hog is now becoming extinct and this is all thanks to hunting them down. Old time farmers used to set ablaze their pieces of land for example after they harvest sugarcane, the fire would burn everything including the pests. This method however is not quite environmental friendly because fire burns everything including the vegetation and as such it may end up causing soil erosion. Use of traps is another pest control means, and this is whereby you buy a device that holds the insect and prevents it from moving.
